Zendit — Connecting Wind Farm Projects From Planning to Remote Field Operations

Purpose-Built Operational Software for Wind Farm Projects

Wind turbine installation projects involve complex planning, multiple teams, site activities, project documentation, photos, progress tracking and reporting — often across remote locations where reliable internet connectivity cannot be guaranteed.

While construction and project management software can handle parts of this process, critical information can still be spread across Excel spreadsheets, Microsoft Project and Gantt charts, documents, photos and onsite processes.

Zendit identified the opportunity to create something different: a purpose-built operational platform designed around the way wind turbine installation projects actually work.

ISH Technologies worked with Zendit to transform that industry knowledge into a connected web and mobile platform, bringing project management and remote field operations together.

The Challenge: Connecting Complex Projects, People and Field Operations

Wind farm contractors don't necessarily suffer from a lack of software.

The bigger challenge is that different parts of a project can be managed in different places.

Project schedules may be maintained in Microsoft Project or Gantt charts. Other information may live in Excel, construction management systems, project documents, manuals, photos or onsite records.

This can create several operational challenges:

  • Disconnected project information across different systems, files and processes.
  • Limited visibility between what's planned and what's actually happening onsite.
  • Manual coordination and reporting to bring field information back into the project.
  • Documents, photos and site records managed separately from other project information.
  • Remote field crews working in locations with limited or no internet connectivity.

For Zendit, the answer wasn't simply another generic project management system.

The goal was to create operational software specifically around the requirements of wind turbine installation projects, connecting the project office with the people delivering the work onsite.

The Solution: One Platform Connecting the Office and the Field

ISH Technologies worked with Zendit's wind industry knowledge to design and develop a custom web and mobile platform.

Rather than forcing the operation into a standard software workflow, the platform was designed around how these projects are planned, managed and delivered.

Centralised Project Management

The web platform gives project teams a central environment for managing project activities, responsibilities, schedules and progress.

This provides greater visibility across the project and reduces reliance on information being spread across multiple files and processes.

Connected Field Operations

The mobile application extends the operational workflow directly to site.

Field crews can access relevant project information and capture updates where the work is actually happening.

Instead of field information remaining isolated from project management, it can become part of the wider project record.

This creates a more connected workflow:

Planning → Project Management → Field Operations → Progress → Reporting

Built for Remote Sites — Even Without Internet

One of the most important requirements was the reality of working on remote wind farm sites.

Installation crews can operate in locations where mobile coverage and internet connectivity are unreliable or completely unavailable.

A field application that depended on a permanent internet connection would therefore not solve the operational problem.

Zendit's mobile application was designed to support offline field operations.

Crews can continue accessing and capturing relevant information while working without an internet connection. When connectivity becomes available again, the application synchronises the information back to the central system.

Remote Site → Work Offline → Capture Information → Connection Restored → Synchronise → Office Updated

This allows the technology to work around the realities of the field environment rather than requiring crews to change the way they work because of connectivity limitations.

Bringing Project Information and Reporting Together

Wind farm projects can generate large volumes of project information, including documentation, manuals, progress updates, site records and photos.

Zendit provides a more structured way to keep this information connected with the project and the work being performed.

Information captured as part of normal project and field operations can also support project tracking and reporting, reducing the need for teams to repeatedly gather information from different sources simply to understand project status.

For project managers, this provides a clearer view across:

Projects | Activities | Responsibilities | Field Progress | Documentation | Reporting

The Outcome

Zendit demonstrates what can be achieved when software is designed around a specialised operation rather than relying entirely on generic software.

The platform provides:

  • Greater project visibility — connecting planning, project activities and field progress.
  • Better office-to-field connection — information captured onsite becomes part of the wider project workflow.
  • Reliable remote operations — field crews can continue working without internet connectivity and synchronise later.
  • Less reliance on disconnected information — project records can be managed through a more structured operational workflow.
  • Streamlined reporting — information already captured through the system can contribute to project tracking and reporting.

The initial MVP was developed in 14 weeks, followed by a two-week refinement period, providing Zendit with a working foundation that could continue evolving with the needs of the industry.

When Standard Software Doesn't Fit the Whole Operation

Zendit's challenge isn't limited to the renewable energy sector.

Many Australian businesses already use project management software, accounting platforms, CRM systems and industry-specific applications, yet still depend on Excel, email, PDFs, documents and manual processes to manage the gaps between them.

ISH Technologies designs and develops custom operational software and field operations systems around those gaps.

We work with businesses to understand how their operation actually works, identify where information and processes become disconnected, and build software that connects the workflow — without automatically replacing systems that are already doing their job well.
