How Artificial Intelligence Helps In Manufacturing?

Artificial Intelligence is transforming the entire manufacturing and automotive industry. According to a research conducted by the world economic forum, the combination of artificial intelligence, advanced robots and additive manufacturing, will combine to form the 4th industrial revolution. Suppose you want to build 5000 robots in a month, how would it be possible by humans? Do you ever think about this? Actually it can be done by the robots themselves. They build, test and inspect themselves. AI is the most suitable for the manufacturing industry. It can perform quality control, manufacturing, reduce design time and waste of material, perform predictive maintenance and more.

Actually AI is a method to inspect and update themselves. Self evaluation by the software and train the software and perform chain tasks. For example AI can identify your friend’s face in photographs, then you have to “train” them to tag and identify friends with various pose and situations.

Difference between AI, Machine Learning & Deep Learning:

There is no doubt that AI has a great growth & future and it will be successful in manufacturing. The AI can be used for inspecting parts in factories where as another AI application known as robotic prototype will automatically follow the instruction to building parts of programming.

There is an another feature which is used for finding imperfections that is called “Visual Inspection”. Visual inspection system does not depend on AI but it is trained with a large amount of data that sets around 1 million images to make sure that they recognize all potential imperfections. Many factory employees are inspecting the parts themselves. A lot of employees are working together to spot the defects. It is a very difficult task, but with this visual system we can inspect this in half a second. Learning algorithm for this can give you more accurate results than any other inspection or humans.

Generative Design:

According to the manufacturers, AI comes in a new way of process called “generative design”. This is works as if designers create designs with some parameters such as materials, cost constraints and manufacturing methods in to a generative design software. Then the software explores all the possible permutations and generates designs alternatively. Finally it will transfer into machine learning to test and learn. From each testing they can identify what will work and what doesn’t.

These are the main popular libraries working along with heavy frameworks like apache spark and CNTK etc. In terms of machine learning and deep learning, libraries and frameworks work in python.

Digital Twins mode:

Python is basically ease of using, readable code and is almost unrivaled and simplicity especially for new developers. There are many advantages of ML and DL. Both ML and DL have complex algorithms at different stages of workflows. A new developer needs to worry about the coding because they focus more on solution to their problems. This helps them to easily achieve the goals of the project. The syntax of python is faster than any other programming language and allows the developer to test the code without having to implement them.

Predictive Maintenance:

As opposed to predictive maintenance, guess works will be eliminated and the machine reports updates within a minute. It also saves valuable business time, including labour costs, and guaranteeing optimal manufacturing performance. Digital twins sensors and advanced analytics enable in manufacturing equipments. They will enable predictive maintenance by responding to alerts and resolve the machine issues.

In future, Robots will no longer have to be expensively created and programmed in a time consuming manner and provide them with fixed proceedures of assembled parts. That means we have to specify the task then the system will automatically identify the task and generate the program. The robot itself then decides which task should be done first.

If you are sticking to the old way of manufacturing and you don’t have the capacity to digitalize the manufacturing processes then your production costs may go higher. Your products may be launched late in the market and your valuable customers might decline your products.

Electricity has changed our lives and the business industry a lot. Similarly Deep learning and AI has the potential to transform every industry.
